Chloe applied to be on the Victorian Housing Register to access public housing over a year ago but has been pushed from agency to agency without any hope of even securing temporary accomodation. She has been told she is on the priority waiting list but this has a wait time of five years.
Chloe currently lives in a derelict house which she has just been given an eviction notice for. Prior to this she was homeless for over a year and has found it impossible to find accomodation on the private rental market. After she is evicted she doesn't know what she will do next.
There are currently over 110,000 people like Chloe on the Victorian Housing Register and an increasing number of people experiencing homelessness. The Andrews government is currently systematically demolishing existing public housing stock, that has been neglected and left in disrepair, and replacing it with private dwellings and community housing. Community housing charges vulnerable Victorians higher rents and provides less housing security than public housing.
To help please share our petition and Chloe's story and demand the Andrews government to prioritise public housing to protect all Victorians and immediately house everyone in need.
