Release the documents…
On the occasion of our new website launch, the Save Public Housing Collective has a clear message for the Premier, the Attorney-General and the Housing Minister:
In response to the 2025 Parliamentary Inquiry into the Redevelopment of the public housing towers, the State Government reportedly refused to hand over 146 secret cabinet documents it claims justifies the demolition of the towers.
Without these documents, the evidence supporting the demolition of the towers cannot be tested, commercial arrangements with developers cannot be evaluated, and the case for tower by tower evaluation or the feasibility of refurbishment of the towers is unable to be assessed.
Make your voice heard, and demand the release of the documents.
Step 1: Address your email
To:
nick.staikos@parliament.vic.gov.au (Nick Staikos, Minister for Housing)
sarah.mckenzie@vic.alp.org.au (Sarah McKenzie, ALP Candidate for Richmond)

Step 2: Make three demands

Subject: Stop the demolition of Melbourne’s 44 public housing towers
Dear Minister Staikos, Ms McKenzie, Ms Taylor,
I’m writing as a concerned Victorian about the plan to demolish all 44 of Melbourne’s public housing towers, which would displace around 10,000 residents.
I’m asking you to:
Commit to no further loss of public housing. Social housing is not public housing, and replacing one with the other is a loss.
Release the reports requested by the Parliamentary Inquiry. Residents and the public deserve to see the evidence behind a decision of this size.
Evaluate each tower individually, and refurbish or replace it in consultation with residents and resident representative bodies.
[Optional: add one or two sentences on why this matters to you, e.g. you live nearby, know a resident, or are a voter in your electorate.]
I look forward to your response and to hearing how you will act on these three points before the November election.
Yours sincerely,
[Your full name]
[Suburb / electorate]
Every email counts, and we’re grateful you’re taking the time to send one.
With all gratitude and thanks,
